Lucio

An Overwatch Ultimates Lucio repaint from years ago.

The year is 2019

Hasbro has just launched Overwatch Ultimates, an affordable action figure line for the hit Blizzard game.

At the time, I was obsessed with OW.

We played daily. We were half decent. We had fun.

But now? [redacted]

Anyway, here's a Lucio figure I painted by hand about 5 years ago.

This is the figure straight out of the box. Hasbro really cheaped out on the paint applications for this line. I assume the licensing costs were astronomical and the budget was meh.

Fisher-Price

What's on this side? Not paint, that's for sure.

His backside is especially bland. So many missed opportunities.

At least they printed his tattoo. Lest we forget Hasbro's laziness with Starting Lineup.

I actually took a few photos while painting this figure! Present Me thanks Past Me. Future Me is undecided.

Just like today, I had no idea what I was doing. This figure was not washed or primed and then painted with thick acrylic paint from the craft store.

All things considered, it looks pretty good! The blue is not much different from the stock blue, but the metallic look makes the legs pop.

In game, Lucio's blades change color from green to yellow depending on his active abilities. I prefer the yellow healing blades and painted them appropriately.

And that's all past me did in taking work in progress photos. There wasn't much else to see other than his weapon, hands, effect pieces, torso, backpack, etc.  [shrug emoticon]

These are all photos I took just the other day of the completed figure:

Here's an old OW display of mine with Lucio showing off the new digs. This photo was taken sometime in 2019.

Also pictured are a few of the AGS Season 9 contestants.

The golden years of Overwatch are long gone. The game was already in rough shape, but when Blizzard uninstalled OW1 from my computer released Overwatch 2...

yeah, I don't even have Battle.net installed anymore.

But even if I don't play this cursed game, I'll always have an affinity towards some of the characters. I have over 2000 hours in OW. I wish it still existed.

Back to Lucio:

At the time, I was very proud of this repaint. Now as I'm looking back, I see a lot of flaws and a lot of mistakes.

I'm still proud of it.

I can see the differences when I look at Lucio and compare him to a figure I painted more recently. I can see the changes. growth. improvement. Whatever you want to call it, it feels good.
