After School Retro Desk

Refinishing some furniture

Kotobukiya's Sousai Shojo Teien After School Retro Desk.

This is the set built, but unpainted. It's not bad looking right out of the box but it needs some love. Too many plastic tones.

Lightly primed and ready to go

For the wood pieces, I mixed a shade a brown pretty similar to the existing color of plastic. I don't dislike that color. I just want these pieces to feel a bit more real.

The desk lamp is getting the gold treatment. Gone are the days of yellow lamps. Gold is so in right now.

Royal!

Base coats all applied. Nearly ready for finish.

After painting a few small details by brush and applying some clear coat, here are the newly refinished pieces of furniture:

Nice and shiny, like a real old school desk.

Love it! I attempted to paint the bulb with a few different whites and yellows to give a burnt-in kinda effect.

Small gold tassles at the bottom of the cushion really make the chair pop. Having the seat be matte instead of the glossy plastic it once was helps a lot, too.

The full ensemble of furniture pieces. I think these look remarkedly better!

Ritsuka enjoying a nice sit in her new chair.

That's it! That's the whole project.

They can't all be long.
